2014 National Invitational Tournament Results
TUCSON, Ariz. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 23 UNLV men's golf team shot a second-round 1-under-par 287 on Saturday and is in a tie for sixth place heading into the final round at the National Invitational Tournament, which is being played at OMNI Tucson National (par 72, 7,200 yards).
California increased its lead on the rest of the field to 16 shots after its second-round 7-under 281 and has a 36-hole total of 27-under 549. SMU is second at 11-under after shooting 13-under on Saturday, while New Mexico is third at 9-under. San Diego State is fourth at 8-under, Oklahoma State is fifth at 6-under and UNLV is tied with Arizona at 5-under for the tournament.
Individually, Michael Weaver took over the lead at 7-under 137 after a 2-under during the second round. SMU's Harry Higgs and Cal's Keelan Kilpatrick are both tied for second at 6-under. There is a three-way tie for fourth at 5-under.
UNLV junior Carl Jonsonleads all Rebel players in a tie for seventh at 4-under 140 after his 3-under 69 on Saturday. Jonson has a total of 10 birdies over his two rounds.
Other Rebels: sophomore Zane Thomas is tied for 15th at 2-under 142 after a second-round 2-over 74, freshmen AJ McInerney and Taylor Montgomery are both tied for 30th at 1-over 145 after each turned in even-par 72s on Saturday, and junior Kurt Kitayama is tied for 56th at 5-over 149 after a 5-over 77 during the second round. Freshman Chris Tuulik, who is competing as an individual, is tied for 19th at 1-under 143 after a second-round 2-under 70.
The tournament features 14 teams and 81 individuals.
