LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (16-7/9-3 Mountain West), which is ranked No. 25 by Perfect Game will host Utah Valley (7-16) in midweek action on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. PT. The Rebels are most recently coming off of a series victory over San Diego State over the weekend. UNLV defeated the Aztecs 5-4 on Friday night behind a complete game performance from Erick Fedde. On Saturday, UNLV dropped its first game at Earl E. Wilson Stadium this season, losing to the Aztecs 5-2. The Rebels took the series victory on Sunday, defeating SDSU 9-1 behind another complete game performance, but this was credited to sophomore Bryan Bonnell. It was his second complete game of the year. After hosting the Wolverines, UNLV will travel to Nebraska for a three-game set and then will play one game against Creighton on Monday, March 31.

UNLV baseball (16-7/9-3 Mountain West), which is ranked No. 25 by Perfect Game, will play its last home game in the month of March on Tuesday against Utah Valley (7-16) at 6:05 p.m. Fans unable to make it to Earl E. Wilson Stadium can watch online at UNLVRebels.com. The Rebels are coming off of a series victory over San Diego State. The Rebels beat the Aztecs on Friday night 5-4 behind a complete game performance from junior Erick Fedde (4-1) where he struck out a career-high 12 Aztecs. On the year, Fedde is 10th in the country with 47 strikeouts. UNLV suffered its first home loss of the season on Saturday as SDSU won 5-2. Junior John Richy (4-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season. The Rebels bounced back on Sunday to beat the Aztecs 9-1 behind another complete game performance. This CG was credited to sophomore Bryan Bonnell (3-1), who allowed one run on seven hits and struck out one without walking anyone. Kenny Oakley (0-2), who will get the nod against Utah Valley, pitched a gem at No. 9 Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday, March 18, where he allowed two runs on five hits and struck out six in 7.0 innings of work. Despite his effort, Oakley was stuck with the loss as the Rebels fell to the Titans 2-1. Joey Lauria made a relief appearance in that game and struck out the only three batters he saw. Sophomore Justin Jones leads the Rebels this season with a .328 batting average. He is also riding a 14-game hitting streak. T.J. White (.315), Edgar Montes (.313), Joey Swanner (.311), Morgan Stotts (.310), Erik VanMeetren (.307) and Johnathan Torres (.300) are all hitting over .300 so far for the Rebels. Matt McCallister leads the team with two home runs while White has a team-high 20 RBI. Stotts and Patrick Armstrong rank second on the team with 17 RBI.
SCOUTING THE WOLVERINES
Utah Valley (7-16) is coming off of a series victory at Dallas Baptist. The Wolverines won the first two meetings in Dallas, 10-5 and 6-3, respectively, before falling 4-1 on getaway day. Before traveling to the Lone Star State, UVU had lost its last three (two vs. North Dakota and one at Utah), but earlier this season the Wolverines won at Loyola Marymount, at Arizona, at Pacific, at Long Beach State and against North Dakota at home. Craig Brinkerhoff leads the Wolverines from the plate with a .296 batting average. He is tied for a team-high two home runs and has driving in 12 runs, which is tied for second on the team. Mark Krueger is hitting .284 this season and has also driving in 12 runs. Sean Moysh has a team-high 14 RBI and is hitting .221. Krueger, Moysh and Brinkerhoff lead the team with two home runs apiece. The Rebels will see senior right hander Devin Nelson (1-3, 4.15 ERA) on Tuesday. His ERA is the second lowest on the team and he has struck out 11 batters in 26.0 innings of work, which ranks second on the team.
UNLV-UTAH VALLEY HISTORY
This will be the first meeting between UNLV and Utah Valley, however, the two programs do have a couple connections. Associate head coach Dave Carter was a pitcher for UNLV in 1988 and 1989 and former UVU assistant Kevin Loftus was an All-American for UNLV in 1989.
ON DECK
The Rebels will head back on the road when they travel for a three-game series to Nebraska and a rare Monday contest against Creighton at T.D. Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Neb. The Rebels and Cornhuskers have met 22 times, but this will be the first time the two teams will meet in Lincoln, Neb. The first game of the three-game set is slated to start at 6:35 p.m. CT/4:35 p.m. PT on Friday, March 28. The first pitch for Saturday's game is slated for 2:05 p.m. CT/12:05 p.m. PT and Sunday's game is set to go off at 1:05 p.m. CT/11:05 a.m. PT and will also be broadcast on the Big Ten Network. UNLV and Creighton will play at 7:30 p.m. CT/5:30 p.m. PT.
