Rebels To Take Show On The Road

UNLV-Nebraska & Creighton Notes Get Acrobat Reader

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (17-7/9-3 Mountain West), which is ranked No. 25 by Perfect Game, will travel to face Nebraska (14-10) and Creighton (11-7-1). The Rebels and Huskers will play three games, beginning on Friday at 6:35 p.m. CT/4:35 p.m. PT. The Saturday contest will start at 2:05 p.m. CT/12:05 p.m. PT and first pitch for the game on Sunday is slated for 1:05 p.m. CT/11:05 a.m. PT. The games on Friday and Saturday will be streamed live on Huskers.com. The series finale between UNLV and Nebraska will be shown live on the Big Ten Network. Wayne Randazzo and former Major Leaguer Cal Eldred will be on the call. After the three-game set with the Huskers, the Rebels will play a rare Monday contest against the Bluejays at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, where the College World Series is played in June. First pitch for UNLV and Creighton is set for 7:30 p.m. CT/5:30 p.m. PT and the game will be streamed live on GoCreighton.com.

SCOUTING THE REBELS

UNLV baseball (17-7/9-3 Mountain West), which is ranked No. 25 by Perfect Game, will begin its longest road stretch of the season by playing four games in the Cornhusker State. The Rebels will play a three-game set at Nebraska and will play a rare Monday contest at Creighton. The four games in Nebraska are the first of a nine-game road swing. After playing the Huskers and the Bluejays, UNLV will travel to Fresno State for three games and Arkansas for two games. The Rebels are most recently coming off of a 8-3 victory against Utah Valley at home. Kenny Oakley (1-2) earned his first win of the year over the Wolverines. Last weekend UNLV captured a series victory over San Diego State. The Rebels beat the Aztecs on Friday night 5-4 behind a complete game performance from junior Erick Fedde (4-1) where he struck out a career-high 12 Aztecs. On the year, Fedde ranks 10th in the country with 47 strikeouts. UNLV suffered its first home loss of the season on Saturday as SDSU won 5-2. Junior John Richy (4-1) was saddled with his first loss of the year. The Rebels bounced back on Sunday to beat the Aztecs 9-1 behind another complete game performance. This CG was credited to sophomore Bryan Bonnell (3-1), who allowed one run on seven hits and struck out one without walking anyone. Junior Joey Lauria (2-1) and sophomore Brayden Torres (1-1, 3 saves) have been the main pitchers out of the bullpen for UNLV, as the pair has struck out 18 batters a piece. Lauria has allowed only one earned run in 11.2 innings of work while Torres has allowed four earned runs in 16.2 innings. Sophomore Justin Jones leads the Rebels this season with a .338 batting average. He is also riding a 15-game hitting streak, which is the longest active hitting streak in the Mountain West. T.J. White (.315), Edgar Montes (.324), Joey Swanner (.311), Morgan Stotts (.320) and Erik VanMeetren (.321) are all hitting over .300 so far for the Rebels. Matt McCallister and Patrick Armstong lead the team with two home runs a piece and Armstrong has a team-high 21 RBI. White ranks second on the team with 20 RBI while Stotts is third with 18 RBI.

SCOUTING THE HUSKERS

Nebraska (14-10) is most recently coming off of series loss at Iowa last weekend. The Huskers split their midweek games, defeating Wichita State on Tuesday 7-3, but then falling to Kansas State 12-6 on Wednesday. At home this season, Nebraska owns a 7-2 record with its only losses coming to Northern Colorado (March 12) and at the time No. 25 UC Irvine (March 14). Leading the Huskers this season from the plate is Ryan Boldt. Boldt owns a .375 batting average to lead the team. He also is tied for a team-high three triples. 10 players for Nebraska have a batting average over .300 and as a team they are hitting .318, which ranks 12th in the country. Pat Kelly, who is the only Husker to have played in all 24 games this season, leads the team with 21 RBI. Tanner LuBach leads the team with two home runs this season. From the mound Nebraska is led by Saturday probable starter Chance Sinclair (4-0), who has the best numbers amongst starters so far this season. Sinclair has yet to be credited with a loss and owns a 0.51 ERA in 35.1 innings of work and has struck out 11 and has walked 14 this season. Friday night probable starter Christian DeLeon (2-1) owns a 2.68 ERA and has struck out a team-high 22 in 40.1 innings of work. Sunday's probable starter Aaron Bummer (2-2) has a 6.08 ERA and has struck out 13 and walked 14 in 23.2 innings of work.

UNLV-NEBRASKA HISTORY

The Rebels and Cornhuskers have met 22 times, but this will be the first time the two teams will meet in Lincoln, Neb. UNLV leads the overall series 14-8, but the two teams have only met twice since the turn of the century, and Nebraska won both of those games at neutral sites. The Rebels and Huskers most recently met in 2012 in Corpus Christi, Texas and Nebraska won 8-7.

SCOUTING THE BLUEJAYS

Creighton (11-7-1) comes into the weekend winners of five of its last seven games. Before facing UNLV, the Bluejays will host Kansas State for a three-game series. They most recently dropped a midweek contest to Kansas on Wednesday 11-0. Leading Creighton from the plate is Brad McKewon, who is hitting .313 from the plate. He is the only Bluejay that is batting above .300 this season. Mike Gerber leads the team with four home runs and has driven in a team-high 19 runs. Creighton has yet to name an official starter for Monday, but the Bluejays' closer Bryan Sova leads the team with a 0.54 ERA and has a team-high four saves to go with 12 strikeouts in 16.2 innings of work.

UNLV-CREIGHTON HISTORY

The Rebels and Bluejays have met 10 times, but this will be the first meeting since 2002. It will also be the first time that the two teams will be playing in Omaha, Neb. against each other. UNLV leads the overall series 8-2.

ON DECK

The Rebels will continue their season long nine-game road stretch by resuming Mountain West play at Fresno State for a three-game series on April 4-6. All three games against the Bulldogs will be streamed by the Mountain West Network and fans can watch on UNLVRebels.com. After UNLV's games in California, the team will play two midweek games at Arkansas on April 8-9. After the Rebels face the Razorbacks, they will return home to host San Jose State on April 11-13.
