COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (UNLVRebels.com) - No. 16/20 UNLV baseball (25-14/13-7 Mountain West) dropped its first conference series of the year after losing 14-4 to Air Force (13-25/4-13 MW) on Friday.
The Falcons jumped all over the Rebels early in the game, plating seven runs in the first inning. They also added two more runs in the fourth, giving Air Force a 9-0 lead.
UNLV bounced back, scoring a run in the fifth when Morgan Stotts tripled down the left field line, driving in Edgar Montes.
The Rebels add three more runs in the sixth, two of which came off of an Erik VanMeetren single that drove in Patrick Armstrong and T.J. White. VanMeetren later scored when Montes hit a double to right field.
Air Force plated five more runs over the final three innings to seal the victory and clinch the series.
UNLV's John Richy (6-3) took the loss after allowing 10 runs, five of which were earned, on 11 hits and struck out eight in 6.0 innings of work.
Justin Jones (2-for-5), Patrick Armstrong (2-for-4), Erik VanMeetren (2-for-4), Joey Armstrong (2-for-5), Edgar Montes (2-for-4) and Morgan Stotts (2-for-4) all finished with multiple hits in the game for the Rebels.
UNLV and Air Force will play the series finale on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. MT/11:00 a.m. PT. Bryan Bonnell (4-2, 1.81 ERA) will get the nod for the Rebels, while Steven Trojan (2-5, 4.15 ERA) is slated to go for the Falcons.
