LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV tennis standout Lucia Batta has been named the 2014 ITA Mountain Region Senior Player of the Year after a vote by a committee made up of head coaches.
She joins only Kristina Nedeltcheva (2010) and three-time All-American Marianne Vallin (1997) in having earned the honor at UNLV.
After winning her second ITA Mountain Regional singles title in October, Batta went into her final spring campaign at the top of the lineup and did not disappoint, going 27-9 overall at No. 1 singles and 19-11 in doubles, including 12-6 at No. 1 in dual matches.
The native of Budapest, Hungary, earned First Team All-Mountain West for the fourth consecutive season in singles and First Team All-MW in doubles for the third time in her career. Batta's 121 singles wins ranked second in UNLV history and her 84 doubles victories put her in third place all-time at the school.
"This award is a great way to end an amazing college tennis career," UNLV head coach Kevin Cory said. "This marks another big honor for our program and for a very classy individual. Lucia has been a loyal Rebel for four years and is a great example of what a student-athlete should be."
