New Video Board To Greet Fans At Sam Boyd

May 2, 2014

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - When fans come out to Sam Boyd Stadium for UNLV football's season-opening game on Sept. 6, they'll see a big change -- above the field.

A brand-new, permanent LED video board was just installed in the facility's North End Zone scoreboard and will make its debut this weekend for the Monster Energy Supercross event.

The board measures 21x48 feet (15 mm Pixel Pitch) and is double the width of the previous screen that had been used at the stadium since 1999. During football games, the board will also display the score, down and distance along with other statistics and state-of-the-art video and graphics.

"We began working on this with the stadium and campus folks as soon as I started here last year and everyone is excited to see it come to fruition," said UNLV Director of Athletics Tina Kunzer-Murphy. "The old board was outdated and the new one will be a big upgrade for our football fans. I want to thank UNLV Senior Vice President Gerry Bomotti for his support and everyone involved in the project for working together to get this done in time for the 2014 season.

"The high quality images on the new board will also allow us to deliver greater value to our corporate partners and the businesses that generously support UNLV Football," Kunzer-Murphy said. "We are committed to creating an exciting game-day atmosphere for everyone who supports UNLV Football -- our students, the Las Vegas community and our corporate partners."

The board, which came at a cost of approximately $400,000, was built by Daktroniks.

"We are very excited about the addition of the new video board," said Sam Boyd Stadium Executive Director Mike Newcomb. "It's double the size of the old board and will make a huge difference for the fan experience at UNLV Football games and all of the other events held at Sam Boyd Stadium. The new board would not have been possible without the help of our great partner Daktronics, who went above and beyond to make this board happen and get it up and running."
