STILLWATER, Okla. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team will begin play at the NCAA Central Regional on Thursday, May 8, at the Karsten Creek Golf Course. This year marks the Rebels' 12th consecutive regional appearance.
UNLV is the 16th seed at the site, which has 24 teams competing. The top eight teams and two individuals not on those teams will advance to the national finals, which will be held at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., May 20-23.
Joining the Rebels at the Central Regional are nine teams ranked in Golfweek's latest top 25: No. 2 UCLA, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 8 Arizona, No. 11 Alabama, No. 15 LSU, No. 17 Oklahoma State, No. 19, Florida, No. 20 North Carolina and No. 22 Ohio State. Also in the field: Miami (Florida), Mississippi State, California, Kent State, Kansas, Texas, Colorado, SMU, Minnesota, Harvard, Lamar, Wichita State, LIU-Brooklyn and Siena.
The Rebels' lineup includes junior Dana Finkelstein, who was named the Mountain West Golfer of the year, junior Mayko Chwen Wang, senior Demi Mak, freshman Avery French and freshman Vivian Hsuan Chen.
Aurora Kan (Purdue), Sanna Nuutinen (TCU), Jenna Hague (Ball State), Ember Schuldt (Illinois), Kimmie Hill (Texas Tech) and Sephanie Miller (Illinois) will be competing as individuals at the Central Regional.
Thursday's opening round is scheduled to start at 5:30 a.m. (PT) on the par-72, 6,200-yard course. UNLV will be paired with Colorado and SMU for the first round and will tee-off on the 10th hole at 9:00 a.m. (PT). Live scoring is available through a link at UNLVRebels.com
There are a total of three regional sites - the other two are in Tallahassee, Fla. (East), and Cle Elum, Wash. (West). The championship finals will be co-hosted by Tulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commision.
UNLV's best finish in a NCAA Regional came in 2004, when the Rebels finished second in the East. Last year, UNLV finished tied for 15th at the West Regional, which was held in Stanford, Calif.
