LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The final rankings of the top duo in UNLV women's tennis history were released by the ITA on Wednesday.
Lucia Batta (Budapest, Hungary), who went 27-9 atop the lineup as a senior, was ranked 80th in the nation and No. 1 in the Mountain Region in singles.
Aleksandra Josifoska (Skopje, Macedonia), who went 16-8 at the No. 2 spot in the lineup this season, finished ranked No. 5 in the region.
Also, the doubles team of Batta and Santa Shumilina (13-8) was ranked No. 3 in the region to end the year.
Batta, a two-time regional singles champion and the 2012 Mountain West Player of the Year, finished second all-time at the school with 121 singles victories. Her winning percentage of .776 also ranked second in program history. Batta also finished third all-time with 84 doubles wins and ranked eighth in doubles winning percentage at .672.
Josifoska, also a two-time regional titlist and the 2013 conference MVP, became only the fifth women's player at the school to break the 100 wins mark, going 103-35 for a winning percentage of .746, which ranked fourth. She also closed out her collegiate career at No. 8 in doubles wins with 76.
"Lucia and Aleks made up the greatest recruiting class in school history when they got here and they did nothing to alter those credentials during their outstanding careers here," said UNLV head coach Kevin Cory. "To have two dominant players in your lineup for so long is not something that comes along very often and we certainly will miss them on and off the courts."
