UNLV Weekly Release
All About The Rebels
UNLV had a successful start to the season under first-year head coach Chris Shaw, with a 2-1 victory over Northern Arizona and a 3-2 overtime win against Grand Canyon this past weekend. That 2-0 start is the first for the Rebels since 2010, while Shaw is the second Rebel coach to win their first two games at the helm of the program.
Five different players all scored last weekend for UNLV, with three of them scoring their first career goal as a Rebel (Isabelle Delgado, Jodi Barber, Chidera Akubuilo). Delgado also has an assist this year to lead UNLV with three points, while junior midfielder Denali Murnan's two assists are tops in the Mountain West.
In goal for UNLV is freshman keeper Jordan Sallee, who played the entire 180:49 of the season thus far, and has nine saves and a 1.49 GAA.
Scouting Colorado
The Buffs are 2-0 on the year, thanks to a 2-0 win over Colorado State and a 1-0 win against Northern Colorado in the Colorado Cup. Three different players scored for CU in the two wins, while in goal has been Kate Scheele, who posted a pair of shutouts and five total saves.
Scouting Saint Francis
The Red Flash were predicted to defend their Northeast Conference title from a year ago, as Saint Francis was picked first in the coaches poll released on Aug. 18. The season did not start out the way SFU wanted however, with a pair of scoreless losses at home. The season opener was a 3-0 loss to St. John's, followed by a 1-0 loss to Delaware. While the team is looking for its first goal of the year, Romina Kunze has played the first two games in goal, and has a 2.00 GAA with nine saves in 180 minutes of action.
Next Time Out
The Rebels will have a week off before returning to the field on Friday, Sept. 12, with a road contest at Utah in Salt Lake City, with a 6:30 pm (PT) start.
