Pume Wins Opener At Tulsa Tourney

Sept. 29, 2014 Complete Results TULSA, Okla. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior Denys Pume rallied to win his first round of singles qualifying at the 2014 St. Francis ITA Men's Tennis All-American Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Pume, who led the Rebels in wins last year with a record of 27-10, lost the first set before getting by Jordan Angus of the University of San Diego, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) after fighting off four match points.

In Tuesday's second round Pume will face Notre Dame's Josh Hagar, who upset 17-24 seeded Maksim Kan of Wake Forest, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 in his first-rounder.

UNLV's other representative at the tourney, senior Ace Matias, lost his first round match to Louisville's Sebastian Stiefelmeyer, 6-1, 6-2, and will now move into the consolation bracket.

Qualifying runs through Wednesday with the main draw scheduled for Thursday through Sunday.
