LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's soccer was topped by Wyoming in a Mountain West match on Friday night at Peter Johann Memorial Field after the Cowgirls scored two unanswered goals in the second half. The Rebels drop to 7-9-0, 2-5-0 while the Cowgirls improve to 7-4-4, 3-3-1.
The Rebels scored the first goal of the game in the 22nd minute. Chidera Akubuilo headed in a corner kick from Jordan Magnin into the right side of the net to give UNLV the lead. UNLV created several scoring chances and possessed the ball for the majority of the half. The Rebels finished the half with a 13-8 shot advantage with six shots on goal.
Wyoming tied the game up in the 48th minute when Alisha Bass kicked in a ball inside the box off a cross from Laurel Ramer. Both teams traded chances before Shaina Ashouri scored the game-winner in the 68th minute. Taylor Burton crossed the ball into the box and Ashouri booted the ball in from the left side. The Rebels would generate several chances in the last 10 minutes of the game, but they could not convert any of their chances as the Cowgirls were able to clear the ball out of danger in the box or force shots to miss wide or high.
Goalkeeper Jessie Clark finished the game with six saves. Denali Murnan and Susie Bernal led UNLV with four saves, and Akubuilo, Magnin and Lily Sender also had three shots. Bernal, Akubuilo, Magnin and Sender had two of their shots on goal.
UNLV returns to action on Sunday for a home match against Colorado State at 10:30 am. The game will be the first of a doubleheader with men's soccer facing Incarnate Word at 1:00 p.m.
