Oct. 20, 2015 AUSTIN, Texas (UNLVRebels.com) - No. 22 UNLV women's golf finished in third place at the Betsy Rawls Invitational. The Rebels turned in a score of 9-over-par 873 (287-289-297) at the University of Texas Golf Club's par-72, 6,298-yard course.
Freshman Elizabeth Prior finished tied for second place at 4-under 212. After coming into the day 3-under 141 (70-71), Prior went 1-under 71 to remain tied with Taylor Kim of Kent State, the No. 17 ranked golfer in the nation, and was the only golfer to finish at least one-under-par in all three rounds. Texas Tech's Gabby Barker won the invitational with a score of five-under 211 (70-72-69).
Freshman Kaylee Benton came into the final round tied for tenth place and remained there after going 1-over-par in round three to finish at 2-over 218 (76-69-73). Benton has finished in the top 10 two out of three tournaments so far this season after placing eighth at the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. Sophomore Harley Dubsky tied for 20th place with a 6-over 222 (72-74-76). Sophomore Mackenzie Raim finished one stroke behind Dubsky in 28th place with a 7-over 223 (70-75-78). Junior Alexandra Kaui tied for 42nd at 11-over 227 (75-75-77). Freshman Shannon Oh tied for 53rd place in her first invitational at UNLV with a score of 16-over 232 (74-80-78).
No. 8 Kent State won the invitational at 5-under 859 (283-292-284). Texas Tech finished second at 3-over 867 (284-292-291). Host No. 50 Texas finished fourth behind UNLV with a team score of 11-over 875 (296-287-292).
UNLV returns to action this weekend as it serves as the host school of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at Boulder Creek Golf Club . The home invitational will run from Sunday, Oct. 25-Tuesday, Oct. 27. You can also follow the action on Birdie Fire.
