LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV scored the first 20 points of the game and led 29-3 after the first quarter on the way, then held off Alaska Anchorage's three-point shooting in the second half for an 84-75 victory in women's college basketball exhibition action Monday night in the Cox Pavilion.

"Our first game and our team was very excited," said UNLV head coach Kathy Olivier. "I thought the first 10-15 minutes was unbelievable, we had great tempo, great energy, and our defense was amazing."

Three players finished with 15 points for UNLV, led by Aley Rohde's double-double of 15 points and 15 rebounds. Amie Callaway also added 15 points and seven rebounds, while Dylan Gonzalez posted 15 off the bench while knocking down 3-of-7 from three-point range.

UNLV made 10 of 16 shots in the opening quarter, while a layup from Brooke Johnson capped a 20-0 run to start the night at the 2:33 mark. The Seawolves finally got on the scoreboard on a jumper with 2:17 to play, but the Lady Rebels would score nine of the next 10 points to take a 29-3 edge into the second quarter. UNLV outscored Alaska 15-0 on points off turnovers in that opening quarter while holding the Seawolves to just 5.3% shooting (1-of-19).

The Lady Rebs would increase the lead to 29 points, 54-25, after two quarters of play. UNLV's margin was as high as 31, 65-34, on a layup from Nikki Wheatley with six minutes to go in the third. Jenna Buchanan then got hot for the visitors, hitting four treys over the rest of the quarter, helping UAA go on an 18-9 run to close within 74-52.

Buchanan hit three more from downtown in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, cutting the edge to just 13, 76-63 with 7:12 on the clock. After UNLV stretched the lead back to 14, UAA ran off five straight to cut the edge to single digits, 79-70 with under three minutes to play. Dylan Gonzalez then hit the team's first basket of the quarter, a trey from the left side, and Wheatley knocked down a pair of free throws to close out the game and the nine-point margin.

Also in double-figures for UNLV was Wheatley with 13 and Johnson with 12. The Lady Rebels shot 52.6% (30-of-57) and held a 45-26 edge on the boards, though they did turn the ball over 23 times. UNLV was also 19-of-25 at the free throw line for 76%.

UAA was paced by Buchanan with 31 points, as she was 9-of-11 from three-point range. Megan Mullings was the only other player in double-figures with 11. The Seawolves shot 40.9% (27-of-66) for the game, 13-of-24 from three-point land, and made 8-of-13 at the line for 61.5%.
