LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (4-2) rallied from a three-run deficit to pull off a 10-4 victory over Pacific (0-6) on Saturday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
Freshman designated hitter
Payton Squier led the way, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Senior catcher
Erik VanMeetren went 1-for-3 with two RBI, freshman third baseman
Austin Anderson went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored and senior first baseman
Morgan Stotts drove in a pair of runs to assist in the victory.
Pacific tallied three runs in the first inning to take an early lead. UNLV got one run back in the home half of the first after Stotts hit a sacrifice fly to bring home Squier.
The Tigers tacked on another run in the top half of the sixth inning, but the Rebels responded with three runs in the bottom half of the sixth when Squier got things started with a single.
Justin Jones drew a walk and was followed by
Joey Armstrong, who was hit by a pitch. Stotts brought home Squier with a sacrifice fly to left field and VanMeetren cleared the bases with double left field to tie the game.
UNLV took its first lead, 5-4, in the seventh inning when
Joey Swanner scored on a Pacific error.
The Rebels extended their lead in the home half of the eighth inning when, with one out, Stotts hit a double to right field and moved to second after VanMeetren drew an intentional walk.
Edgar Montes singled to right field, bringing home Stotts. Anderson drove in two more runs with a single to right field. After Swanner walked, Squier brought home Anderson, while Swanner scored on a Tigers fielding error.
Junior pitcher
Kenny Oakley went 5.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits. He struck out eight and walked two in the no decision.
Christian Myers (1-0) picked up the win in relief for UNLV.
The Rebels and Tigers play the third of their four-game set on Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Sophomore
D.J. Myers (1-0) is slated to pitch for UNLV, while Cory Popham (0-1) is expected to be on the bump for Pacific.
