Feb. 24, 2015 SANTA ANA, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - No. 19 UNLV women's golf turned in its fifth top-five performance of the season after shooting the second lowest single round score in program history on Tuesday. The Rebels finished fourth at the UC Irvine Invitational presented by Kia with a score of 7-over-par 870 (301-294-276).
UNLV's final round of 12-under 276 was two shots back of its record, 14-under 274, which was recorded in the third round of the 2008 Las Vegas Showdown. The Rebels final round score was also the lowest single round score recorded at the invitational.
Washington took home the team title, turning in a tournament score of 10-under 854 (283-283-288). USC finished second at 1-over 865 (287-290-288) and Texas A&M finished third, one stroke ahead of UNLV, at 6-over 870 (286-292-292).
Senior
Dana Finkelstein paced UNLV and improved from a tie for 12th to fifth after a posting a final round score of 2-under 70. She finished the tournament at 2-under 214 (72-72-70), three shots off the lead. It was her 15th career top-five finish.
Texas A&M's Marijosse Navarro (72-68-71) and USC's Gabriella Then (70-68-73) tied for first at 5-under 211, but Navarro captured the individual title on the fifth playoff hole. Washington's Charlotte Thomas (73-70-69) and Jennifer Yang (69-72-71) tied for third and finished two strokes ahead of Finkelstein at 4-under 212.
Also competing for the Rebels was freshman
Harley Dubsky, who turned captured her third top-10 finish of the season as she tied for 10th at 1-over 217 (77-73-67). Freshman
Mackenzie Raim tied for 25th at 5-over 221 (74-78-69), sophomore
Avery French finished tied for 30th at 7-over 223 (78-75-70) and senior
Mayko Chwen Wang tied for 36th at 10-over 226 (78-74-74).
The tournament featured 13 teams and 72 individuals. UNLV will have a couple weeks off before competing in its next tournament of the spring on March 16-17, which will be the Arizona Wildcat Invite in Tucson, AZ.
