ALBUQUERQUE (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team finished fourth overall at the 2015 Mountain West Indoor Championships behind a total haul of 78 points. The Rebels were paced by a total of 12 top-eight finishes, including victories in the 60m by Destiny Smith-Barnett and the 4x400m relay.
By virtue of its higher finish in the conference's indoor meet held at the Albuquerque Convention Center, the Scarlet & Gray claimed the three points set aside for the sport in the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and sponsored by Barrick Gold. Nevada, Reno was ninth in the standings Saturday with 34.50 total points, but still holds a slim three-point lead (10.5 to 7.5) in the all-encompassing - athletic and academic - competition between the Silver State institutions.
The New Mexico Lobos won their second straight indoor title off 149 points. Colorado State took second with 96 points, while San Diego State was third with 81.50. Following UNLV were Wyoming (52), Utah State (45), Boise State (40.50), Fresno State (35.50), UNR (34.50), Air Force (33) and San Jose State (17).
Smith-Barnett claimed the 60m title in a personal-best time of 7.37, which ranks as the third-best time in the program's indoor all-time performance list. She was fourth in the 200m with a time of 24.28.
The foursome of Monay Meggs, Mandy Chitwood, Drea Austin and Laura Anuakpado gave UNLV its second straight 4x400m relay championship in a season-best 3:41.60. Those four were influential as individuals, too. Anuakpado and Meggs finished second (54.78 PB) and sixth (55.74), respectively, in the 800m. Chitwood was second in the 800m (2:12.04), while Austin took fifth in the 60m (7.61) and sixth in the 200m (24.41).
Auzsane Crowe-Carter joined Chitwood in the 800m, and her seventh-place finish in 2:13.36 earned the Rebels points.
In the 60m hurdles, Taylor Pegram finished fourth in a personal-best 8.45 - a time that ranks third in the indoor charts. Ke'Nya Hardge claimed seventh in the event in 8.67.
MacKenna Howard one-upped herself in the shot put with a mark of 52-7.25 (16.03), which was good enough for second place and second in UNLV's performance listings.
In the 3000m, Nikki Regalado ran a converted time of 9:50.2 - the second-best performance in the program's history.
