LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's tennis team picked up its first ranked win of the season with a 5-2 upset of No. 44 Wichita State on Wednesday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

With their fourth straight victory, the Rebels improved to 8-4 overall while the Shockers saw their six-match winning streak snapped and fell to 12-4 on the season.

UNLV got off to a good start by taking two of three doubles matches for one team point. Ruben Alberts and Jakob Amilon downed Ilja Cuic and Guillermo de Vilchez at the second position, 6-2, while Denys Pume and Alexandr Cozbinov won by the same score over Jocelyn Devilliers and Miroslav Herzan on court three.

Moving to singles play, UNLV took a 3-0 lead after Ace Matias stunned 46th-ranked Tin Ostojic, 6-3, 6-3, at the top position and Alberts got by Herzan, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 6. After WSU closed to within one point, the Rebels posted the clincher on court five when Cozbinov rallied past Devilliers, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4. Adam Gage Brown then posted the final win, 6-3, 3-6, 7-6 over de Vilchez at the fourth position.

"It was a great team effort today in both singles and doubles," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "The guys deserved this win. They responded to the challenge and played with great energy to get the in against a very good Wichita State team."

Next up, the Rebels will host Idaho on Friday beginning with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission is free of charge.
