LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's basketball freshman guard Rashad Vaughn and sophomore forward Christian Wood were both named to the 2015 National Association of Basketball Coaches' All-District 17 Teams, the organization announced Friday.
Both Vaughn and Wood were selected to the second team as UNLV was the only school in the district to have more than one representative listed.
The first team included Derrick Marks (Boise State), Larry Nance Jr. (Wyoming), J.J. Avila (Colorado State), JJ O'Brien (San Diego State) and Marvelle Harris (Fresno State), while the other three members of the second team were Jalen Moore (Utah State), Hugh Greenwood (New Mexico) and AJ West (Nevada, Reno).
Vaughn, who was also selected as the Mountain West's Freshman of the Year and honorable mention all-league, started all 23 games he played in this season before being sidelined for the remainder of the year with a knee injury. He averaged a team-high 17.8 points per game, which ranked second in the MW at the time of his injury and was third in the country among freshmen. He also averaged 4.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 43.9 percent from the floor and 38.3 percent on 3-pointers.
Vaughn scored in double figures in 21 of his 23 games played, including each of his last 19 contests. He scored 20 or more nine times and 30 or more twice. He averaged 32.2 minutes played per game.
Wood, who was also named Second-Team All-MW, averaged 15.7 ppg and 10.0 rpg. He was second on the team in scoring (fifth in the MW), while he led the squad in rebounding (second in the MW). He also recorded a team-high-tying 90 blocks during the season, which is tied for fourth all-time at UNLV.
Wood recorded 18 double-doubles, which ranks eighth in the country, while scoring 20 or more points on nine occasions and recording double figures in rebounding 20 times. He shot 49.7 percent from the field, while playing in all 33 of UNLV's contests this season (started 32).
The NABC All-District Teams are selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC.
