No. 25 Rebels Finish Fifth In Ohio

2015 Robert Kepler Intercollegiate Results

COLUMBUS, Ohio (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 25 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round 13-over-par 297 on Sunday and finished in fifth place at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate, which was played at The Ohio State University Golf Club's Scarlet Course (par 71, 7,455 yards).

Georgia Tech captured the team title for the second consecutive year. The Yellow Jackets finished at 4-under 848 after a final-round 2-over 286. SMU finished second, 16 shots back at 12-over 864. Host Ohio State was third at 16-over, Michigan was fourth at 17-over and the Rebels rounded out the top five at 22-over. Fourteen teams competed at the Kepler Intercollegiate.

The Rebels have now finished in the top five in seven of their 10 events this season, including five of their last six.

Individually, Georgia Tech teammates Anders Albertson and Vince Whaley tied for medalist honors by two shots at 5-under 208. Both golfers shot 1-under 70 during the final round. SMU's Bryson Dechambeau and Georgia Tech's Ollie Schniederjans tied for third at 3-under.

UNLV freshman John Oda led the Rebels and tied for seventh individually at 1-over 214 after a final-round 1-over 72. Senior Carl Jonson tied for 18th at 6-over 219 after a final-round 1-over 72 and freshman Shintaro Ban tied for 20th at 7-over 220 after a final-round 4-over 75.

Other Rebels: senior Kurt Kitayama tied for 29th at 9-over 222 after a final-round 8-over 79 and sophomore Redford Bobbitt tied for 54th at 15-over 228 after a final-round 7-over 78. The tournament had a total of 75 individuals.

UNLV will be back in action May 1-3, at the Mountain West Championship in Tucson, Ariz.
