Spring Showcase Set For High Noon Saturday

April 17, 2015

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV football team will stage its annual Spring Showcase on Saturday from noon to approximately 1:30 p.m.

The public is invited to attend the free, family-friendly event, which will again be held on campus at UNLV's soccer complex at Peter Johann Memorial Field. The soccer stadium, which has seating for fans, is located near the intersection of Swenson Avenue and Flamingo Road.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and a free kids zone will include bounce houses and face-painting until noon.

The showcase, which will feature a controlled situational scrimmage this year, is the final of 15 spring practices staged by the Rebels under new head coach Tony Sanchez.

The first 2,000 fans will receive a team schedule poster and the first 1,000 fans will receive a team schedule magnet, both of which feature the Rebels' new red helmet design. Fans can also purchase their tickets on-site and save $10 off the regular prices.

A wide array of concessions, catered by Smokin' Sams, will be available for purchase and fans are invited to meet the players for photos and autographs on the field after the scrimmage ends. Fans who can't make it to the event can listen live on AM 1400 KSHP thanks to sponsor Findlay Toyota in the Valley Automall. Former UNLV head coach Harvey Hyde and former assistant coach Rich Abajian will join Tony Cordasco broadcasting live from the Showcase from noon-2 p.m. Following the showcase, the UNLV baseball team will host New Mexico starting at 2 p.m. at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

Also, before the spring game, fans will get the chance to purchase authentic new and game-used UNLV athletic apparel as part of the department's popular biennial sale. The public is invited to the North Gym inside the Paul McDermott Physical Education complex on campus from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. that day when hundreds of items will be for sale. The event will feature brands such as Nike and Russell for official men's and women's team apparel, including game uniforms, jerseys, warmups, coaching shirts and athletic shoes, as well as other memorabilia.

Prices range from $1 to $50 and cash and major credit card will be accepted. All proceeds benefit the UNLV Athletics Department.

The North Gym is located adjacent to Rebel Park, which is located between Earl E. Wilson Stadium and the Lied Athletic Complex, which are near the intersection of Paradise and Harmon.
