LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV football resumed its spring practices on Monday.Tony Sanchez's squad practiced for just over two and half hours on a breezy day at Rebel Park.
BACK TO WORK
The Rebels resumed its spring, but the energy wasn't exactly what head coach Tony Sanchez was looking for.
"Honestly, I told the guys we looked a little flat," Sanchez said. "There was too much of our coaches encouraging guys to get going and to play harder and faster."
The players responded to the encouragement during the practice and the first year coach used the lack of energy in the beginning as another lesson.
"They got going around the middle of practice and you could see the competitive levels flare up," Sanchez said. "We have to do a better job of being a faster starting team in everything we do. We don't have time to waste. We don't have half a practice to try to figure out how to get intense and move around."
With less than half of the spring practices remaining, Sanchez and his coaching staff will continue to drive home schemes that have been implemented and teaching points.
"We have to get better at being fundamentally sound," Sanchez said. "We didn't install anything on defense today, they will add a few things later this week. Offensively, we just have to do a better job of checking ourselves into the right pass protections and making sure we are all on the same page. We just need to get 11 guys on the same page executing the same thing. That's the main thing."
"We have enough in right now, but you always want to add more offensively. We added a couple of wrinkles today, but I don't think there is too much more to add. We just need to clean it all up and look sharper and crisper. We have to do a better job of creating movement up front on the offensive line and we have to do a better job of creating explosive plays."
