Runnin' Rebels Sign Tyrell Bellot-Green

May 20, 2015

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV men's basketball program has received a signed national letter of intent from Tyrell Bellot-Green, head coach Dave Rice has announced.

A 6-foot-7-inch, 225-pound forward from Mississuaga, Ontario, Canada, Bellot-Green will transfer to the Runnin' Rebel program from Hill College in Hillsboro, Texas, where he averaged 14.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game as a sophomore in 2014-15. He shot 45.5 percent from the field and 47.5 percent from 3-point range (95-for-200).

Bellot-Green will be a junior for UNLV in 2015-16 with two years of eligibility remaining.

"We are excited to have Tyrell join our team," Rice said. "He brings a winning attitude and is an excellent shooter. Tyrell is experienced and is a great teammate. He is also a tenacious rebounder."

During his two years at the junior college level, Bellot-Green shot 48.4 percent from 3-point range. This past season, Bellot-Green's team reached the semifinals of the National Junior College Athletic Association's national tournament, earning third place.

He has also played for CIA Bounce in Canada, the same AAU program that produced former Runnin' Rebels Anthony Bennett, Khem Birch and incoming freshman Jalen Poyser. Bennett became the No. 1 overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft following his freshman year at UNLV.

Bellot-Green joins Stephen Zimmerman, a 7-foot center from Las Vegas, Nev., Derrick Jones, a 6-foot-7-inch small forward from Radnor, Pa., Poyser, a 6-foot-4-inch point guard from Toronto, Canada, and Ike Nwamu, a 6-foot-5-inch guard who is transferring from Mercer, as part of UNLV's 2015 recruiting class. Zimmerman, Jones and Poyser will all be freshman this fall, while Nwamu is a graduate transfer who will be a senior in 2015-16.

Zimmerman is ranked as the nation's 10th-best player in the class of 2015 and was selected as a McDonald's High School All-American. Jones is ranked as the 27th-best player in the class of 2015 and was named the Best Dunker in the country in his class by ESPN, while Poyser is the No. 1-ranked player in Canada in the class of 2015. Nwamu was Mercer's leading scorer last season and earned All-Southern Conference honors for 2014-15.

In addition to the young core of returning players from the 2014-15 season, the Runnin' Rebels are looking forward to redshirts Ben Carter, a 6-8 junior forward from Las Vegas (transfer from Oregon), and Jerome Seagears, a 6-1 senior point guard from Silver Spring, Md. (transfer from Rutgers), eligible to play for UNLV in 2015-16.
