LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV baseball (22-27, 8-18 MW) fell 8-3 to Fresno State (26-25, 15-11 MW) on Saturday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.
Andrew Yazdanbakhsh led the way, going 2-for 4 with a RBI and run scored. Edgar Montes went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a run scored. Joey Armstrong and Morgan Stotts also finished with multiple hits in the game.
The Bulldogs scored six runs (five earned) in the third inning to open the scoring. They added another run in the sixth to take a 7-0 lead.
The Rebels cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh. Montes opened the inning with a double to right field and later scored on a Fresno State error. UNLV's second run of the inning came when Armstrong hit a single to the shortstop to score Yazdanbakhsh.
Fresno State added another run in the eighth, but the Rebels got it back when Erik VanMeetren scored on a Yazdanbakhsh ground out.
D.J. Meyers (2-3) took the loss after allowing six runs on seven hits with three strikeouts. Joey Lauria pitched well in relief, allowing one run in 4.1 innings with four strikeouts. Bryan Bonnell and Bryan Menendez made relief appearances.
UNLV will conclude its three-game set against Fresno State on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. Freshman Blaze Bohall (6-2, 3.70 ERA) is probable for the Rebels, while the Bulldogs have yet to announce a starter.
Prior to first pitch, UNLV baseball will honor its nine seniors. Senior Day ceremonies are scheduled for 12:40 p.m. The first 250 fans will also receive a drawstring backpack, and kids are invited to run the bases after the game.

The deal expires three hours before the first pitch of every home game. Prices for individual games are $8 for adults, $6 for faculty/staff and seniors and $4 for groups of 15 or more (group tickets must be purchased at least one day in advance for the game). Children 12 and under and UNLV students with a valid student I.D. are free.
This season at Earl E. Wilson Stadium, fans will enjoy a new and improved concession stand. Smoken Sams catering will be providing entrees that range from barbecue sandwiches, hot dogs and hamburgers to nachos, chicken fingers and fries. A variety of beverages will also be available.
