LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -
UNLV's Rashad Vaughn was selected No. 17 by the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA Draft, which was held Thursday night at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The 6-foot-6-inch guard, who was a Runnin' Rebel freshman in 2014-15, became the 15th Runnin' Rebel to be selected in the first round of the NBA Draft since 1975.

"Rashad is a great representative of our program," head coach Dave Rice said. "He is a winner and will be a terrific NBA player."

Vaughn is the second UNLV freshman to be selected in the NBA Draft and second player taken since Anthony Bennett went No. 1 overall to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2013. Bennett was the first freshman from UNLV to be drafted.

There have now been 49 players taken in the NBA Draft from UNLV in its history and the Runnin' Rebels have had two players taken in the last three years after going the previous nine seasons (2004-12) without a selection.

Vaughn is the third UNLV player ever drafted by Milwaukee (Elburt Miller, 8th round in 1968; Lewis Brown, 4th round in 1977) and is the first guard from the program to be drafted since Marcus Banks was taken with the 13th overall pick by Memphis in 2003.

Vaughn was selected as this year's Mountain West Freshman of the Year and also was honorable mention all-league. He started all 23 games he played in for UNLV this past season before being sidelined for the remainder of the year with a knee injury. He averaged a team-high 17.8 points per game, which ranked second in the MW at the time of his injury and was third in the country among freshmen. He also averaged 4.8 rebounds per game, while shooting 43.9 percent from the floor and 38.3 percent on 3-pointers.

Vaughn scored in double figures in 21 of his 23 games played, including each of his last 19 contests. He scored 20 or more nine times and 30 or more twice, while averaging 32.2 minutes played per game. He was also named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches' All-District 17 Second Team.
