French Qualifies For U.S. Women's Amateur Championship

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's golfer Avery French earned medalist honors on July 13 with a 74 at Hacienda Golf Club in La Habra Heights, Calif., and has qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.

Monday's event in California was a one-round qualifier and eight of a total 83 players advanced to the championship, which will be held at Portland Golf Club in Portland, Ore., August 10-16. Fox Sports 1 will provide coverage of the tournament from August 12-16.

French completed her sophomore year with the fourth lowest scoring average on the team at 76.33. She competed in 24 rounds for the Rebels and finished in the top-20 twice. The California native also recorded three rounds at par or better and turned in a career-best finish at the Mountain West Championship, where she tied for 16th.
