July 24, 2015 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV and Arizona State University have scheduled a future home-and-home series in football, Director of Athletics Tina Kunzer-Murphy announced Friday.
The Sun Devils will travel to play the Rebels in Las Vegas for the first time ever on Sept. 12, 2020. UNLV will make its second trip to Tempe for the return game on Sept. 11, 2021.
“We are thrilled to announce this series with Arizona State,” said Kunzer-Murphy. “The fact that these two universities are located so close to each other will make it great for both fan bases. It makes a lot of sense to play a nationally successful Pac-12 Conference opponent from a bordering state and we are excited to be hosting the Sun Devils for the first time ever to open the series.”
The two programs have met only once before in football but it was one of the most memorable games in history for the Rebels, who upset 13th-ranked ASU 23-20 in overtime at Sun Devil Stadium on Sept. 13, 2008.
Arizona State has played once before at Sam Boyd Stadium, facing Boise State in the 2011 Las Vegas Bowl.
UNLV’s 2020 schedule includes opening at home vs. Louisiana Tech on Sept. 5, hosting Arizona State one week later, and then playing at Big 12 Conference member Iowa State on Sept. 19. Two games are set for 2021 as the Rebels will go to Tempe in week two of the season and then host Iowa State on Sept. 18.
UNLV will open its 2015 season at Northern Illinois on Sept. 5 and then host UCLA for the first time in history one week later in the first of six home games. Season tickets, which start as low as $99, are available now by calling (702) 739-FANS (3267) or visiting www.unlvtickets.com.
