LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's tennis squad again earned the designation of Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team while one individual was also named an ITA Scholar-Athlete for 2015.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any school that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above. Head Coach Kevin Cory's program has reached that milestone in 12 of the last 14 seasons.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must be a letterwinner, have a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters. Earning that standing this year was senior hospitality management major Anett Ferenzci-Bako.
Ferenzci-Bako was earlier announced as one of six UNLV women's players to earn 2015 Academic All-Mountain West honors. She was joined by sophomore Paola Artiga, senior Alexis Garrett, junior Iren Kotseva, freshman Mercedes Lopez-Velez and senior Santa Shumilina.
To be eligible for selection to the Academic All-MW Team, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
Three of those same players -- Artiga, Ferenzci-Bako and Garrett -- also earned the designation of Mountain West Scholar-Athlete, which goes to those with a cumulative GPA or 3.5 or better.
