Sept. 13, 2015 ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (UNLVRebels.com) - The No. 23 UNLV women's golf team will open the 2015-16 season this week, September 14-15 at the Dick McGuire/Branch Law Firm Invitational, which is hosted by the New Mexico Lobos.
The 54-hole event, which is hosted by the New Mexico Lobos, will take place at UNM's par-73, 6,315-yard Championship Course with live scoring available at www.BirdieFire.com.
Play will begin on Monday at 6:30 a.m. PT with a shotgun start, where teams will play 36 holes. Pairings for the final 18-hole round on Tuesday will be determined by team score.
Competing for the Rebels this week will be freshman Texie June Petchel, sophomore Mackenzie Raim, freshman Kaylee Benton, reigning Mountain West Freshman of the Year and MW First Team Selection Harley Dubsky and junior Alexandra Kaui. Junior Vivian Hsuan Chen will also travel and will be playing as an individual. Raim and Dubsky return from last year's squad, while newcomers Petchel, Benton and Oklahoma transfer Kaui will look to fill the loss of Dana Finkelstein, the three-time Mountain West Golfer of the Year, who also received First Team All-Amercian honors last season.
The Rebels will be part of a 18-team field that includes UC Davis, Cal. State Fullerton, Denver, Gonzaga, Iowa State, Miami, New Mexico, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, Stanford, UTEP and Washington State.
UNLV is entering its 15th season and has qualified for 13 consecutive regionals. The Rebels, who return four lettermen from last season, begin their sixth year under the direction of head coach Amy Bush-Herzer.
