Sept. 21, 2015 Knoxville, Tenn. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's golf sits in seventh place following the first two rounds on Monday afternoon in day one of the Mercedes-Benz Invitational hosted by Tennessee. The Rebels turned in a score of 16-over-par 584 (293-291) at Cherokee's Country Club's par-71, 5,870 yard course.
Kent State leads the field and turned in a two-round score of 5-under-563 (285-278). Iowa State (287-277) is second with 4-under, and Tennessee is third with 1-under 567 (280-287). Ohio State (four-over 572), Florida (five-over 573), and NC State (11-over 579) also are above UNLV on the team leaderboard.
Taylor Kim of Kent State is atop the leaderboard for individuals with a 6-under 136 (69-67). Florida's Samantha Wagner (67-70) and NC State's India Clyburn (68-69) are tied for second with a five-under 137.
Freshmen Kaylee Benton led the way for the Rebels with a one-under 141 (73-68), tying for the sixth best score of the invitational. Her three-under 68 in the second round tied for the second best score in the round. Sophomore Harley Dubsky finished tied in 28th place with a five-over 147 (73-74). Freshman Elizabeth Prior posted a six-over 148 (74-74) in her collegiate debut. Sophomore Mackenzie Raim notched a 9-over 151 (76-75), and junior Alexandra Kaui got a 12-over 154 (73-81). As an individual freshman Texie June Petchel posted a five-over 147 (71-76).
The teams and 78 individuals will play the final round of the invitational on Tuesday. Third round action will begin with a shotgun start set for 5:30 a.m. PT.
