Sept. 22, 2015 KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The UNLV women's golf team finished ninth at the Mercedes-Benz Invitational on Tuesday. The Rebels had a third round score of 18-over-par 302 to finish the invitational at 34-over 886 (293-291-302) at Cherokee's Country Club's par-71, 5,870 yard course.
Freshman Kaylee Benton had the best performance for UNLV for the second straight invitational, finishing tied for 16th at 5-over 218 (73-68-77). Sophomore Harley Dubsky wasn't far behind at 8-over 221 (73-74-74) to conclude the invitational tied for 28th place. Sophomore Mackenzie Raim went one-over-par in the final round, tied for the tenth best score in the final day, to post an overall 10-over 223 (76-75-72) to tie for 34th. Freshman Elizabeth Prior post a 15-over 228 (74-74-80) in her collegiate debut, and Alexandra Kaui went 8-over 79 in the final round to end the invitational at 20-over 233 (73-81-79). As the individual Texie June Petchel finished the three rounds tied for 45th at 12-over 225 (71-76-78).
Kent State won the invitational with a score of 5-under 847 (285-278-294). Host Tennessee finished second at 4-over 856 (280-287-289), and Iowa State finished just one shot behind at five-over 857 (287-277-293) to place third. Kent State's Taylor Kim (69-67-71) and NC State's India Clyburn (68-69-70) tied for first place overall at 6-under 207.
The invitational featured 14 teams and 78 individuals. The Rebels will be off for almost a month until they return to action on October 19-20 at the Betsy Rawls Invitational in Austin, Texas.
