Rebels Earn Highest Regional Ranking in Program History

Oct. 18, 2016
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Women's Soccer record-setting season has earned the team a spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Pacific Region rankings, coming in at No. 7 this week -- the highest-ever regional ranking in program history. This is the second-straight week the Rebels have found themselves in the rankings as they were ranked No. 10 in last week's poll - the only non-Pac-12 school to be included in the list. The rankings marked the first time UNLV has appeared in the poll since October 16, 2012, when they were ranked ninth. The full NSCAA rankings can be found here.

The program's first-ever ranking came on October 5, 2004 when it was tied for 10th with Utah, with the team being ranked as high as eighth at the end of that season. The Rebels were ranked eighth three other times from 2005-08, followed by three other 10th-place rankings from 2010-12 before earning the ninth spot on October 16 of 2012.

The Scarlet and Gray (13-3-1, 6-1-1) and in the midst of one of their best seasons in program history as the team has already tied the single-season win mark of 13 and has set new single-season records for goals (40) and assists (39) -- with three regular season games left to play.

The first-place Rebels will host Boise State and Utah State in their final homestand of 2016 on Friday, Oct. 21 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 23 and 1 p.m., respectively. Both the Broncos and the Aggies aren't far behind UNLV in the conference standings, so this weekend's games will be huge as the team tries to win its first Mountain West regular season championship since 2007.

Friday's contest will be the first of a doubleheader at Peter Johann Memorial Field as the Rebel men's team takes on Air Force following the women's match. The doubleheader will celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month, offering $4 tickets to those that wear pink, while the first 150 fans to each game will receive free sport bottles. The UNLV Soccer Foundation is hosting a tailgate for both contests on Friday afternoon staring at 4:30 p.m. Admission is free with purchase of a ticket to the games.
