LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's contingent saw four singles entries and a trio of doubles teams survive the opening day of the 2016 ITA Mountain Region Men's Tennis Championships presented by Oracle and being held here at the Darling Tennis Center.

Still alive after two rounds is No. 3 seed and 124th-ranked Jakob Amilon, who enjoyed a bye before downing Derek Vincent of BYU 6-4, 6-2. Ruben Alberts, seeded ninth, also enjoyed a bye and then defeated Isaac Perez of Air Force, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5. Courtney Lock won twice â€" downing Cassell King of Northern Colorado 6-1, 6-0, and then Felix Schumann of NAU, 6-1, 7-5. Alexandr Cozbinov, seeded fourth, had a bye and then cruised past Luca Coutinho of Idaho, 6-1, 6-0.

All three Rebel doubles teams who competed advanced while fourth-seeded Amilon and Alberts had a bye.

Action resumes tomorrow with two more rounds of singles and a round of doubles.

Members from 16 western teams are facing off as individuals through Sunday each day in both singles and doubles. This is one of 24 USTA/ITA Regional Championships for NCAA Division I men and women taking place over these middle two weekends of October at campuses throughout the country. The singles and doubles champions will advance to the 2016 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place November 3-6, at the indoor facilities at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, N.Y.
