Palandech Honored Nationally By Manning, O'Brien Awards

Nov. 15, 2016

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV quarterback Kurt Palandech was one of eight quarterbacks named to the Manning Award's "Stars of the Week" list sponsored by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

The junior signal-caller also was named to the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award's Great 8 honorees for Week 11.

Fans can now go to the Allstate Sugar Bowl Facebook page to vote for what they think was the best performance from this past weekend. When voting closes on Thursday at 9 a.m. PT, the top vote-getter will be announced as the Manning Award Quarterback of the Week. The Manning Award was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.

The Davey O'Brien Foundation was created in 1977, and the National Quarterback Award, the oldest and most prestigious college quarterback award, was first issued in 1981.

Palandech, who was making his first start of the season, set career highs in completions, passing yards, touchdowns and rushing yards as he helped UNLV upset Wyoming 69-66 in triple overtime on Saturday.

The native of Plainfield, Illinois, completed 20 of 32 passing attempts for 252 yards and three touchdowns and no interceptions while leading all rushers in the game with 157 net yards on 16 carries. His biggest play may have been a 76-yard touchdown run that gave UNLV the lead immediately after Wyoming had gone ahead on a long punt return for a score. He then completed a two-point conversion pass to give his team a seven-point advantage in what would go down as the third-highest combined scoring game in FBS history.

UNLV next travels to play No. 22/23 Boise State on Friday on ESPN2 starting at 6 p.m. PT. The regular-season finale vs. Nevada, Reno is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 26 at Sam Boyd Stadium. Tickets are available now by calling (702) 739-FANS or visiting unlvtickets.com.
