Nov. 2, 2016 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV senior tennis star Jakob Amilon will open his first career visit to the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in Flushing, N.Y., on Thursday.
Amilon, ranked 124th in the nation, will look to upset No. 45 Jose Salazar of Arkansas in a match scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. PT at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Live scoring will be available by visiting www.itatennis.com.
The winner of Thursday's match will move on to face the winner of a match between No. 36 Gage Brymer of UCLA and No. 37 Alfredo Perez of Florida. The losers will move into the consolation bracket.
Amilon, 6-2 in singles this season, earned his spot in the elite 32-player main draw by winning last month's ITA Mountain Regional title in Las Vegas. The native of Stockholm, Sweden, is the first UNLV men's player to appear at the indoor nationals since Henner Nehles in 2004.
The USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships, which runs Nov. 3-6, is the fourth national championship of the 2016-17 ITA National Tournament calendar.
