LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Host UNLV saw just one of its one of its singles players survive Friday's opening day of the Larry Easley Memorial Classic, which is being played this weekend at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Playing in Flight Two, Richard Solberg won by default in the first round and then downed David Nguyen of NAU, 6-4, 6-3, to advance. Two other Rebels, Charlie Croxford and Adam Gage-Brown are scheduled to play in the consolation bracket tomorrow.

Action resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday with the first of two rounds of doubles. Admission is free of charge.

Players from six other programs are competing in the individual event: USC, UCLA, Oregon, Portland, NAU and Grand Canyon.

The annual tournament was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
