Sender, Magnin Earn NSCAA Scholar Honors

Dec. 15, 2016
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Women's Soccer added to its long list of postseason honors as seniors Lily Sender and Jordan Magnin were named to NSCAA Scholar All-West Region teams, while Sender earned the program's second Scholar All-American honor, announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) on Thursday.

Sender garnered the program's second first team selection on the Scholar All-West teams and first-ever Scholar All-America First Team selection, while Magnin was named to the All-West Region Second Team. Overall, it's the program's third and fourth All-West selections, while Sender became the second Rebel to be named to a Scholar All-American team. Katie Carney (2004-07) was the first as a third team selection in 2007.

Sender, a forward from Honolulu, Hawaii, turned in a breakout final season at UNLV, leading the team and the conference with 15 goals and 38 points after registering three points total in her previous three seasons. Her performance earned her the program's third Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year award to go along with an All-Conference First Team selection. Sender's stellar year also earned her NSCAA All-Region honors and she was named the program's first-ever NSCAA All-America selection. The mechanical engineering major has garnered several awards for her work on the field and in the classroom as she was named to CoSIDA's Academic All-District team and became just the second player in program history to earn a spot on the organization's Academic All-America team. Sender, who plans on pursuing a graduate degree in mechanical engineering, had the second highest grade point average on the team in 2016 (3.55). This past summer she was also named a Mountain West Scholar Athlete award recipient for the 2015-16 school year.

Magnin, a midfielder from Temecula, Calif., has been a significant contributor to the Rebel women's soccer program over the last four years, playing in 83 games and starting 69 of them. In 2016, she finished third on the team in total points (17) after scoring five goals and registering seven assists to earn her first career Mountain West All-Conference First Team selection. As a junior in 2015, she set a then single-season record for assists with nine and finished her UNLV career tied for second all-time with Carney with 19. The hospitality management major has also excelled in the classroom, earning a 3.50 grade point average, good for third-best on the team. She is a three-time Mountain West All-Academic Selection and earned Mountain West Player of the Week honors twice in her career. Magnin leaves the UNLV program as one of the best midfielders to ever take the field for the Rebels.

Together, Sender and Magnin were instrumental in leading the team to its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2006 as UNLV won the Mountain West regular season and conference tournament titles in the same season for the first time in school history. The tandem's on the field performances also helped the Rebels set new school records for most win (16), goals (51) and assists (50) in a single season.
