LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Men's tennis team staged a furious rally in singles play, but Loyola Marymount ultimately claimed a 4-3 victory at the Fertitta Tennis Complex on Sunday.
The Rebels fell to 5-3 while the Lions improved to 2-4.
Loyola Marymount jumped to a quick 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point.
In singles, the Rebels won three matches, one of which was a tiebreaker. Jakob Amilon defeated Charles Boyce 6-4, 7-5 at the top position; Ruben Alberts rallied past Luke Bohuslav 4-6, 6-2 6-0 at No. 4; and Evaldo Neto downed Alex Bourgeois 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6.
"Today was a great college match and hats off to LMU. The doubles point was the difference and the guys battled hard at every position in singles. Big thanks to all the local ball kids who worked the match today," said Head Coach Owen Hambrook following the match.
Next up, the Rebels will compete at the 127th Annual Pacific Coast Men's Doubles Championship in San Diego. The event will run from Thursday March 3 to Sunday March 6.
