Rebel Netter Set To Make Davis Cup Debut

Feb. 29, 2016

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV men's tennis player Alexandr Cozbinov is in Northern Europe this week to take part in Davis Cup competition as a member of the national team from his home country of Moldova.

"One of the greatest honors an athlete can receive is being selected to play for your country," said UNLV head coach Owen Hambrook. "Alex is obviously very excited about the opportunity. He has made great progress since last season, which is a big reason that he was chosen. We are looking forward to seeing how he does, but win or lose, this will be a great experience for him."

Cozbinov, a sophomore who is currently 10-4 in singles playing at the No. 2 position in the lineup for the Rebels, is part of a four-man team competing in Group III at the Tere Tennis Centre in Tallinn, Estonia. The round-robin action in pool play gets underway Wednesday on the indoor hard courts. The winners of each pool will face each other to determine which two nations are promoted to the Europe/Africa Zone Group II in 2017.

Cozbinov will not miss any UNLV team matches as the Rebels are sending a contingent to this weekend's Pacific Coast Doubles Championship in San Diego and will next play a dual on March 11 at UC Santa Barbara.
