LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – The 67th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team built a 3-0 lead but could not find the knockout point and lost for the first time in nine home matches this season, 4-3, to San Diego State on Friday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.
 
The Rebels fell to 10-6 overall and 1-2 in Mountain West play while the Aztecs improved to 8-9 and 2-0.
 
UNLV won the doubles session with relative ease. No. 58 Arda Karakas and Ilia Snitari downed William Kleege and Aleski Lofman, 6-3, at the top spot while Illia Maksymchuk and Marko Maksimovic defeated Eugenio Gonzalez and Imran Daniel Hazli, 6-2, on court two to secure the point.
 
In singles, All-American Snitari, ranked 61st nationally, improved to an eye-popping 24-2 this season with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Lofman at the No. 1 position. Maksimovic worked even quicker with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Hazli at the second spot to give the hosts a third point.
 
UNLV won the first set on half of the remaining courts but SDSU rallied, taking a trio of three-set matches in the bottom half of the lineup to post the upset.   
 
UP NEXT: UNLV will host UNR next Friday as part of the Silver State Series presented by America First Credit Union. Doubles play starts things off at 1 p.m. Admission to all matches at the Fertitta Tennis Complex is free of charge.
