LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV football team turned in a spirited full-pads Friday morning practice at Rebel Park before breaking to enjoy the University's annual Spring Break.

Head Coach Tony Sanchez said he was happy with the effort as his squad hit the midway point of spring ball.

"We did some good things," said Sanchez. "I like where we are at. Saw some good individual efforts and we are heading into the right direction. We threw a lot at them and we are a lot further ahead, probably 50 percent ahead of last year at this time. Overall, it's been a quality two weeks. The week off is good because the guys will come back fresh and ready to get back to work, both physically and mentally."

The highlight of the day took place when the team gathered at midfield and Sanchez announced that junior walk-on linebacker Roscoe Kalilikane out of Honolulu's Radford High School had earned a full scholarship starting in the fall. His teammates hoisted him on their shoulders while chanting his first name in celebration.

"Roscoe has a done a great job," Sanchez said. "He's one year away from graduating, he's busted his tail in school and out here getting on the field playing special teams. He's someone who is going to take advantage of this opportunity. He's a great representative of a guy who shows up every day and does the right thing for the brand. He's earned it and I am fired up for him."

UNLV will return to the field Monday, March 28, at approximately 8 a.m. All practices are open to the public, with restricted viewing areas and a rule of no electronic communication devices while at Rebel Park.

The Spring Showcase is set for Saturday at Noon on April 9 at the Peter Johann Memorial Soccer Stadium on campus. Admission is free of charge for the family-friendly event.
