SAN JOSE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball was swept by San Jose State in the three-game weekday series, dropping the final game 6-3 on Wednesday afternoon at SJSU Field. The Rebels drop to 18-17, 2-4 while San Jose State improves to 14-17, 3-0.

The Rebels had jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Jamie DePippo hit her team-leading fifth home run of the season to left field with one out.

The Spartans took the lead for good in the next inning with four runs. After a leadoff single to left field and walk, a one-out RBI-single started the scoring. San Jose State then hit a RBI-double and two RBI-single all with one out to go up 4-1.

UNLV cut its deficit to one run in the third inning. Jadelyn Yadao-Valdez led off with a walk, and DePippo singled to the shortstop with one out. Two wild pitches moved DePippo to third base and allowed Yadao-Valdez to score. Janine Petmecky knocked in DePippo with a single up the middle for the second run of the inning.

The Rebels were unable to get anyone on base in the fourth, fifth or sixth innings. Emily Haslinger singled to second base in the seventh inning, but Courtney Beavers, pinch-running for Haslinger, got out in the next at-bat on a double play off a fly out to left field.

San Jose State padded its lead with insurance runs in the fourth and sixth inning.

Kwyn Cooper got the start in the circle and threw two innings, giving up three hits, three runs and one walk. Alyssa Batastini replaced Cooper in the second inning before Cooper reentered in the same inning and allowed two hits, one run and no walks. Petmecky pitched the last four innings of the game and surrendered six hits, two runs and four walks with one strikeout.

DePippo was the only Rebel to collect more than one hit with a single and home run in addition to her two runs.

UNLV will return home to Las Vegas to take on Utah State, and the first game of the series will take place on Friday starting at 6:00 p.m.
