April 19, 2016 RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - No. 17 UNLV women's golf shot a 6-over-par 294 in the second round of the Mountain West Championships on Tuesday and continues to lead the conference championship with a team score of 13-over-589 (295-294) at the par-72, 6,324 yard, Dinah Shore Tournament Course at the Mission Hills Country Club. Junior Alexandra Kaui leads the 45-golfer field with a 1-under 143 (72-71).
Kaui was the only golfer in the second round to finish below par. She got three birdies on the front nine and ended her day with a birdie on the last hole to finish a stroke under-par. She finished in the top three for scoring in par-3, par-4 and par-5 holes.
Sophomore Mackenzie Raim is tied for fifth place at 4-over 148 (73-75). Sophomore Harley Dubsky is one stroke behind Raim at 5-over 149 (73-76) to tie for seventh place. Freshman Elizabeth Prior had the second best round of golf for the Rebels with a 1-over par 73 and is tied for ninth place at 6-over 150 (77-73). Freshman Kaylee Benton improved on her first day of the conference championship and posted a 3-over 75 in the second round to tie for 15th place at 8-over 152 (77-75).
Fresno State is in second place nine strokes behind UNLV at 22-over 301 (598). No. 22 San Diego State is in third place at 24-over 600 (296-304).
Colorado State's Katrina Prendergast is one stroke behind Kaui in second place at even-par 144 (71-73). Gudrun Bjorgvinsdottir of Fresno State and Georgia Lacey of San Diego State are tied for third place at 3-over 147. San Jose State's My Leander is tied with Raim in fifth place at 4-over 148 (73-75).
The Mountain West Championship serves place as to whether UNLV or Nevada, Reno will receive three points in the Governor's Series contest, the all-sports competition between the two schools that is presented by NV Energy and Barrick Gold. Nevada, Reno is 31 strokes behind UNLV in seventh place. Women's golf has claimed the three points for UNLV in all three years of the competition.
The final round of the conference championship will start tomorrow at 7:00 a.m., and UNLV will tee off with Fresno State and San Diego State on the first hole at 8:30 a.m. Benton will start off things for the Rebels and will be followed by Prior, Dubsky, Raim and Kaui.
