LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV football team completed its third week of spring action on Saturday by holding a spirited scrimmage under blue skies and warm temperatures at Rebel Park.

A big crowd was on hand as the program hosted its annual "Junior Day" one week out from the big Spring Showcase, which will start at noon on April 9 at the Johann Memorial soccer stadium on campus. As always, that family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

Head coach Tony Sanchez said Saturday's dress rehearsal offered valuable game-like experience.

"You can't get in game shape unless you play games -- so it's good to have those conditions," said Sanchez. "We saw a little bit of good and a little bit of bad on each side."

Sanchez also raved about the play of young running back Lexington Thomas, whose day included bolting for a 50-yard touchdown.

"Lexington Thomas is a stud. He's always capable of going (into the end zone) from anywhere. He's not just fast, he's bigger and stronger now and you see that maturation (as he becomes a sophomore)."

UNLV will return to the field Monday at approximately 8 a.m. The team will go Monday, Wednesday and Friday before the 15th and final practice on Saturday. All practices are open to the public, with restricted viewing areas and a rule of no electronic communication devices while at Rebel Park.

REB ZONE SPECIALS

In an unprecedented move KVVU-TV Fox 5 will air two special spring editions of "Reb Zone Sports Show" on the next two Sundays starting at 11 p.m.

This week, host Kevin Bolinger and head coach Tony Sanchez will be in the studio to preview the Spring Showcase while the April 10 episode will review the spring game and look forward to the fall season.
