FRESNO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball (23-31, 7-16) fell to No. 19/17 Fresno State (41-9-1, 22-0) 6-2 on Friday night at Margie Wright Diamond. The Bulldogs scored six unanswered runs to secure the victory.

UNLV scored the first run of the game in the first inning. Garie Blando led off with a single to the shortstop and stole second base. A fielding error on a fly ball by Francesca Foti with one out allowed Blando to score on the play.

The Rebels increased their lead to two runs in the third inning. Jadelyn Yadao-Valdez reached first base to begin the inning on a fielding error by the first baseman. After a fielder's choice by Blando caused Yadao-Valdez to be out at second base, Foti singled through the left side. Alyssa Cordova followed that up with a single that caused the diving shortstop to make an errant throw and give Blando enough time to reach home for the two-run lead.

It was all Fresno State afterwards as the Rebels gave up the lead in the bottom of the third inning and only mustered one hit afterwards. The Bulldogs put two on base to start the inning on a single to left field and a hit by pitch. A two RBI-triple evened up the score in the next at-bat and was followed by a RBI-single to right center.

The Bulldogs added to their lead in the fourth inning. With a leadoff single to left field, a fielding error allowed the runner to reach third base. A sacrifice fly knocked in the runner.

Fresno State added two insurance runs in the fifth inning. The Bulldogs had back-to-back singles in the outfield to begin the inning and advanced both baserunners with a sacrifice bunt. A two RBI-single to right field with one out scored the two Bulldogs' runs.

Janine Petmecky threw her third complete game of the season and gave up nine hits, five earned runs and one walk with two strikeouts.

Blando went 1-3 at the plate with a walk, stolen base and two runs. She extended her streak of reaching base to 18 games and now ranks fifth all-time in UNLV history in career stolen bases (68) and 10th in walks (66).

The Rebels and Bulldogs will play the series finale tomorrow at 12:00 p.m.
