May 14, 2016 Championships Central | Saturday's Results | Final Scores
CLOVIS, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV track & field team scored 53 points to finish fifth overall at the 2016 Mountain West Outdoor Championships Saturday. The Rebels entered the fourth and final day of the Conference meet in ninth, but a second-place finish by Auzsane Crowe-Carter in the 800m and help from Drea Austin in two more events pushed the Scarlet & Gray up the standings.
By virtue of the team's higher finish at the league meet, UNLV Athletics secured its fourth consecutive title in the Governor's Series presented by NV Energy and sponsored by Barrick Gold. Currently, the Rebels lead the Wolf Pack by 12 points, 28.5-16.5, with only three athletic points left to be handed out next weekend in baseball.
"We are very disappointed in our overall team finish," said head coach Yvonne Wade. "We should have done better but made too many mistakes and let that energy carry over into other events. Ultimately, we need to get tougher and learn how to compete when it counts."
