LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Host UNLV saw two singles players and two doubles teams advance through Friday's opening day of the annual Larry Easley Memorial Classic being held at the Fertitta Tennis Complex.

Players from three other western programs â€" UCLA, San Diego State and NAU -- are competing in the individual event. Action resumes Saturday at 9 a.m. and admission to all matches is free of charge.

In singles, Richard Solberg downed Tim Fisher of NAU, 6-1, 6-2, and Courtney Lock got by Lucas Taylor of NAU 6-4, 6-4. In doubles play, Kevin Chau and Solberg downed Taylor and Fisher of NAU, 8-6, and Lock and Eric Samuelsson doubled up Connor Rapp and Bryce Pereira of UCLA 8-4.

The annual event was renamed in 2010 in honor of UNLV Hall of Famer Larry Easley, who passed away from illness in 2005 at the age of 57. Easley coached the UNLV men's tennis team longer than anyone in history and produced sometimes-spectacular results over his dozen seasons from 1993-2002, including producing five All-Americans and two NCAA individual champions.
