SPRING FOOTBALL: Live Tackling Drills Highlight Practice

March 10, 2017

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) -- The UNLV football team wrapped up its second week of spring practices on Friday at Rebel Park. The temperature peaked over 70 degrees by the end of the training session and there was no noticeable wind.

"Today was practice number five," head coach Tony Sanchez said. "In those first five days we've added a lot. Part of that is the nature of being really young, especially on offense, the last couple years. So our guys all have a lot of reps at this, which is really good. We are way farther ahead then we were the last two years as far as install goes."

The practice session, which went a little over two hours, also saw the team compete in live tackling drills for the first time this spring and the competitive fire was burning as both sides of the ball turned in a solid practice.

"Football is a very physical game and I've always believed the team that is committed to being more physical wins more times then not," Sanchez said. "We have to manage it and can't overdue it, but at the same time you have to do it enough to where you are developing good tackling skills and great ball security skills."

UNLV is practicing each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from approximately 8-10:20 am leading up to the annual Spring Showcase at the soccer stadium on campus on April 1.
