Utah State Takes Game Two Against the Rebels

LOGAN, Utah (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Softball saw its offense get stymied by the Aggie pitching staff for the second consecutive day as Utah State took game two of the series 6-2 in Logan on Saturday afternoon. It marks the first time this season UNLV has lost three games in a row, with the latest defeat dropping its record to 16-11 overall and 0-2 in conference.

After two scoreless innings by both teams, the Rebels jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third on a sequence started by shortstop Karly Bunderson, who reached on an error and moved to second on a groundout by Reina Bondi. Brianna Gatlin came to plate next and knocked her team-leading sixth double of the season to bring Bunderson home.

For the second day in a row, it was another big inning for the Aggies that did the Rebels in as Utah State scored six runs on six hits - including a pair of two-run home runs -- in the bottom of the fourth. The Aggies also had a six-run fourth in Friday's series opener on their way to a 10-2 win in five innings.

The Rebels got one back in the top of the sixth after Alyssa Navarro led off the inning with a double and her pinch runner, Kylie Rasmussen, scored on a Myranda Bueno single down the right field line to make it 6-2. But the two runs would be all they would get, as the Aggies used the duo of April Brown and Friday's winning pitcher Kelli White to close it out. It was Brown's eighth win on the season.

Senior Morgan Ettinger got the start again for the Rebels and seemed to be rebounding well from yesterday's loss with three scoreless innings before the six spot in the fourth. Ettinger has dropped three decisions in a row while her record moves to 12-6 on the year.

The Rebels will try to take one win home with them in the series finale on Sunday in Logan. First pitch is set for 11 a.m. PT.
