SAN DIEGO, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Women's Golf dropped its first round match before second round play was suspended due to darkness on Monday at the 2017 SDSU March Mayhem tournament at The Farms Golf Club in San Diego.
The Rebels were slotted eighth in the 16-team tournament and were paired with No. 9 Old Dominion in their first round match on Monday morning. While the two teams ended the round at 2-2-1, Big Blue was able to move on in the championship bracket due to the Rebels losing more holes overall. The first round match saw sophomore
Alyssa Getty defeat ODU's Maggie Simmernacher (one-up) while senior
Alexandra Kaui bested Rachel Walker (four up with three to play) and fellow senior
Harley Dubsky finished all square with Charlotte De Corte. ODU's Katerina Vlasinova beat out Rebel sophomore
Elizabeth Prior (four up with two to play) and Sana Tufail defeated junior
Mackenzie Raim (two up with one to play).
With the tiebreaker loss, the Rebels entered the consolation bracket with a round two matchup against 16th-seed Yale and had just finished when the second round matches were suspended due to darkness. With several pairs unable to finish, official results were not available, but unofficially UNLV downed the Bulldogs 3-2. Round two official results will be available on Tuesday.
The third and fourth rounds were scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively, but with rain in the forecast for Wednesday, tournament officials decided to play the remaining 36 holes all on Tuesday. After the final few holes of round two are completed in the morning, round three matches are tentatively scheduled to get underway at 8:30 a.m. PT.
