March 27, 2017 LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV Women's Soccer will host its final exhibition games of the spring on Saturday, April 1 at Peter Johann Memorial Field as BYU returns for a second showdown in three weeks and 2016 NCAA Champion USC comes to town for the three-game showcase.
Saturday's marquee matches will follow the same schedule from March 18 when BYU and UCLA were in Las Vegas, with UNLV facing BYU at 3 p.m., BYU and USC squaring off at 5:30 p.m. and concluding with the Rebels taking on the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. under the lights. A ticket costs $5 and covers admission to all three games and free food and drinks at the tailgate at the field during all three matches.
The Cougars and the Rebels are going head-to-head for the second time in three weeks as the rivalry between the two schools has been renewed after going five years without facing one another. BYU is coming off another impressive season that saw the 2016 West Coast Conference Champions earn a four seed in the NCAA tournament and advance to the Sweet 16. The Cougars finished the 2016 season ranked No. 10 in the country and return seven starters from last year's team, including All-American Taylor Isom and West Coast Conference honorees Nadia Gomes, Hannah Clark, Danika Bowman and Alyssa Jefferson.
USC concluded their 2016 campaign by capturing their second NCAA National Championship in program history with a 3-1 win over West Virginia in the championship game last December. The Trojans finished second in the Pac-12 standings behind 2016 Champion Stanford, but were rewarded with one of four two seeds in the tournament. The reigning NCAA champions come to town looking to reboot for next year after they lost seven seniors - including six starters - to graduation from the title-winning squad.
The Rebels officially wrap up their 2017 spring slate with their annual alumni game, set for Saturday, April 22 at 1 p.m. at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
